Help! My Cell Phone Came In Contact With Water
Today, it is not uncommon for one to drop a Cell Phone into a washer, bath tub, sink or simply be affected by a heavy rain storm. What should one do when this happens? I have heard about disconnecting the battery and then using a blow dryer to dry the phone. Others have recommended using a microwave on a low setting to dry the phone. While others suggest placing the cell phone in an uncooked bag of rice for a few days to absorb the moisture. Firstly, let me say that if the circuits on your cell phone have been severly damaged due to accessive water, no procedure will help. If the circuits are fine and you will only know this after executing one of the above procedures, the cell phone can be made functional again.
The most important thing to do once your cell phone has come in contact with water is to remove the battery immediately. H2O or water as we know it can be a conductor of ions or electrons from the battery to various circuits on the cell phone, thus leading to further damage. Therefore, it is very important to remove this quickly.
The next step can be debated. However, I prefer to let the cell phone (circuits) dry under as normal a process as possible. This to me means, placing the cell phone into some moisture absorbing atmosphere for a few days. Using a blow dryer or a microwave seems a little risky and could potentially cause further damage.
Once the cell phone has been through the drying process for a few days, simply do a complete visual check to ensure the cell phone is dry and then add the battery (perferably a new one) and power on. If there is no sign of power (using a new battery), its time to move on .
